In this post I will be talking about what makes a good advertisement and what marketing teams should be looking for when creating this ad. Now I know there are many different departments an ad goes through before it reaches its media channel but for this post I will be focusing on mainly the creative aspect. Some brief points I will be covering are:
- Creativity
- Placement
- Overall Design
Now for Creativity, I feel that many advertisements today try too hard to be original. Now that may seem like a good thing to be original but now a days it is almost impossible to be original. Every idea has been thought of or people feel as they have seen everything already. So for an ad to be creative and good it should strive for being the best at what is it instead of trying to be itself. Meaning that if you are promoting your brand/product and it is similar to another brand/product do what your competitors do but better, feed off what is around you so you can be at the top of that ladder.
Now for Placement, I feel that this is huge so many ads have been good they have just been placed in the wrong spot or are targeting a different audience. Now I know placing an ad in different places cost different prices and that factors into the advertisement itself which may hinder its placement. For an ad to be placed in the correct area generates all of the viewership of your ad so you don't want to screw it up. So my advise to this is that first firmly decide your target audience. Instead of looking at the traffic area where the ad is going to be placed look more at where your target audience is.
No one wants to look at something ugly. This is why Overall Design is important for a good ad. We all have seen ads that just look disgusting and feel disgusting. Not too many advertisement these days suffer from this and they shouldn't even be. Now a days I feel that simplicity is in, go with pastel colors for your ads or feel good bright colors. DO NOT over complicate things and DO NOT go overboard with creativity. As many people have said "Less is More"
Thanks for reading! If you feel I am wrong in any places or have any more aspect regarding creative in a ad leave a comment! :)
